The mission of Housing Families is to end family homelessness. Housing Families will host 4 part-time Commonwealth Corps Members in its GREAT Youth and Families Program who will serve as Academic Enrichment Assistants and a Volunteer Coordinator, improving the personalization and efficiency of academic services and tutoring services in Malden for 165 children impacted by homelessness. Through their service, Members will improve the program’s system to provide personalized tutoring and enrichment assignments for each child, improve volunteer engagement and training, and increase contact with each child’s teacher and school. In addition, they will leverage more than 100 volunteers that will be engaged in academic tutoring, enrichment activities, and other program and agency opportunities.

Description

Housing Families Inc. (formerly Tri-City Family Housing) provides emergency shelter and permanent housing to families in Malden, Medford, Everett, Revere and Chelsea. We offer support, counseling and advocacy for the families in our program. We have a children's program with play groups, therapeutic arts, one-on-one counseling and a tutoring program. Many of the groups are late afternoon/early evening.

We provide shelter for 54 families, case management, housing search, support groups and a children's program. The Children's Program consists of tutoring and therapeutic children's groups. We seek volunteers to help for an hour or two a week with the tutoring program. We also need volunteers to watch pre-school children in the mornings in a play group.
