Wasdworth-Longfellow House
Wadsworth-Longfellow House, the childhood home of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (Maine Historical Society)

Do you love history and storytelling? Do you have strong customer service skills? Do you enjoy working with the public? Become a volunteer docent with Maine Historical Society and conduct interpretive tours of the Wadswoth-Longfellow House!

Within the walls of the Wadsworth-Longfellow House (Maine's oldest historic house museum) lived three generations of one remarkable family that made significant contributions to the political, literary, and cultural life of New England and the United States. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), grew up in the house and went on to become one of the most famous men of his time.

Virtually all of the household items and artifacts in the house are original to the Wadsworth and Longfellow families. Furnishings from the three generations illustrate changes in style, technology, and attitude over the 19th century.

Maine Historical Society is looking for volunteer docents interested in leading interpretive tours of the Wadsworth-Longfellow House; training is provided! This is a wonderful opportunity to work up-close with history, learn new things, meet new people, and even make new friends! We offer a flexible schedule and can validate parking.
