  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Do you like dogs? Want to help out for a great cause at a fun event and meet lots of great people? Then volunteer with the Washington Humane Society this weekend!!

The Washington Humane Society is in need of volunteers for one of our signature events, Fashion for Paws, taking place on May 2 nd at the Grand Hyatt (1000 H St. NW). This event will be a lot of fun (dogs walk the runway!). Without these events we wouldn’t have the funds necessary to save the lives we do.

We are specifically looking for people to help in the dog room. These volunteers will hang out and play with the models’ dogs for the duration of the event: 4pm to ~ 11pm. We will provide dinner and snacks throughout the evening.

If you are interested in helping, please email volunteer@washhumane.org with your full name and email address. Anyone who signs up will get detailed instructions in the next couple of days.

Mission Statement

We inspire and create a community where all animals have secure homes and where people and animals live together with joy and compassion.

Description

The Washington Humane Society (WHS) and the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) merged in February 2016 to create the first end-to-end animal care organization in a major U.S. city. Founded in 1870 and 1914, respectively, WHS and WARL bring together a comprehensive set of animal care and protection programs that touch the lives of more than 60,000 animals each year, including:

  • Rescue and Adoption - With a combined 90% save rate for animals, WHS and WARL have built national models for effective rescue and adoption programs.

  • Humane Law Enforcement - Under its 145-year-old congressional charter, WHS serves as DC’s "animal cops" protecting the District’s animals from cruelty and harm around the clock, every day of the year.

  • Low-Cost Veterinary Services

  • Animal Control - This department responds to 1,500 calls per month for animal emergencies ranging from lost and injured companion animals to injured wildlife.

  • Behavior and Learning - Pet owners can take a wide range of education programs to help strengthen relationships and address common household problems.

  • Other Programs - WHS and WARL also offer programs ranging from humane education to a "Safe Haven" program for the pets of victims of domestic violence, and a pet food bank for families facing difficult financial times.
