This is our annual clean up at our John B. Staalesen Vanderheyden Nature Preserve in Troy. Activities include debris removal, general cleanup, minor landscaping, repair of any winter damage and removal of invasive plants as part of our efforts to restore natural streamside habitat. You will have a chance to learn which plants are invasive and how to get rid of them. This volunteer day will also be part of Riverkeeper Sweep 2015, when 2,000 volunteers in communities from Manhattan to the Adirondacks clean up the Hudson River and its tributaries. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear (jeans, work boots and gloves) and plan to bring a drink and a snack and a hand tool (such as a shovel, rake or pick). All volunteers should check in upon arrival for a specific assignment. We want to know the name of every individual that participates so that we can properly acknowledge them in our newsletter.
