Reading Connections is an adult literacy agency that provides basic literacy instruction through 1:1 volunteer tutoring and small group classes for adults in Guilford County. Our AmeriCorps members assist the agency in providing these services by working directly with students, tutors and small group instructors. These members also provide agency orientations and standardized assessments for potential and current students, as well as provide and support instruction for small group classes for adult learners who want to improve their skills for reading, writing, math, English language, computer, and more!
The member will also receive a broad range of free training, covering topics such as program management, volunteer recruitment, and diversity. Additionally, the members plan and participate in service projects as part of AmeriCorps National Identity Days including: 9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance, Make a Difference Day, Read.Write.Act. Virtual Conference, Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, National Literacy Action Week, Global Youth Service Day, and AmeriCorps Week.
Reading Connections (www.readingconnections.org) is currently recruiting AmeriCorps members to join our team in the fall of 2015. Full-time members will provide 1700 hours of service with a 12 month commitment, while receiving a living allowance of up to $12,100. Upon successful completion of hours and commitment, members are eligible to receive an educational award of $5,730. Visit http://nclc.web.unc.edu/ for more information about the North Carolina LiteracyCorps, or call the Reading Connections office at (336) 230-2223.
