We're a small nonprofit communications organization looking for a volunteer to help with reception and administrative tasks in our office. Our volunteer(s) will answer the phone and direct the calls to one of the staff members. They will also welcome our occasional guests into the office. The position may also require some administrative tasks such as filing documents or updating our contact databases. We will train you on tasks you're unfamiliar with. Our ideal volunteer will have experience working in reception or administration.
Our office is small, with three staff members currently. We enjoy our friendly office environment and sometimes one of our staff members brings her dog to work! Our volunteer will have a desk with a computer to work on. In our office we work on publishing a magazine and blog that focus on community development, affordable housing, community organizing, neighborhood revitalization and more. Our website is shelterforce.org

Description
The National Housing Institute (NHI), founded in 1975, is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering decent, affordable housing and a vibrant community for everyone. Through our magazine, Shelterforce, websites, research, and advocacy, NHI focuses attention and encourages action on progressive, high-impact housing and community-development policies and practices.
NHI has conducted original research on such topics as shared-equity homeownership, managing neighborhood change, saving subsidized housing, homelessness prevention, and creating jobs as a component of affordable-housing construction. Operating at the intersection of theory, practice, and policy, NHI examines how these and other factors affect people as they build safe, viable neighborhoods.
