OPEN POSITION: Be a Youth Program Rockstar!

AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate in Spokane

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY AND GAIN EXPERIENCE

Five summer AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) associate positions are available to serve from June 15, 2015 to August 14, 2015. A VISTA summer associate will be placed for their entire term in a community organization located in the Bemis, East Central, Cheney, Riverside or West Valley school district neighborhood. Each VISTA summer associate will receive a stipend of $2,245 and the option for an education award of $1,150 or $250 cash stipend at the completion of their service. Training in youth program quality and dealing with youth trauma and stress will be provided.

The Summer VISTA associate will work with a community partner to develop, implement and evaluate literacy, math and other activities for youth who are not enrolled in other formal summer programs. This programming will be designed to engage the youth as a way to prevent summer learning loss.

Continuing learning opportunities during summer months is critical to maintaining reading levels, especially in low income communities. Without continued access to books, tools and support for literacy, children often backslide or lose classroom gains.

We are looking for people who are passionate and committed to the mission of AmeriCorps VISTA which is to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.

To apply go to my.americorps.gov and set up an account and then search listings for "youth program rockstar" in Spokane WA

ONLY RESUMES SUBMITTED WITH APPLICATIONS through MyAmeriCorps Portal will be considered.

Please contact Gretchen Chomas at Gretchenc@unitedwayspokane.org with any questions.
