Come help protect the California Least Tern, an endangered local bird, during its nesting season inMissionBay!

Ternwatchers is San Diego Audubon’s volunteer predator monitoring program. By joining this program, volunteers help promote productive nesting seasons by keeping eyes on nests and documenting observed predators in Mission Bay.

This program runs from April to September and you make your own hours! Monitoring shifts should be at least one hour, and you may schedule your shifts according to your availability.

To sign up to be a Ternwatcher, please fill out an online application here. This application will also ask you to provide your availability for a training date. All Ternwatchers must attend a two- hour training in our office to review program expectations and protocol.

If you have any questions, call or email our Conservation Project Coordinator, Christina Hirt. hirt@sandiegoaudubon.org (858) 273-7800 x 106.

Mission Statement

Together we defend our region's birds, unique biodiversity, and threatened habitats through advocacy, education, and restoration. We envision a region in which people and nature are interconnected and thriving, where diverse communities find common ground to prioritize and respond to the climate crisis and other urgent threats to birds and the natural world, and give shape to an enduring culture of conservation and sustainability.

Description

San Diego Audubon Society (SDAS) is a chapter of the National Audubon Society, an organization founded in 1905 to stop the slaughter of wild birds for their feathers. Originally founded in 1948, SDAS has served the region for over 70 years. We serve a diverse population, with community-based habitat restoration projects, environmental education programs, and recreational offerings in North County, Metro, East County, and South Bay communities. Programs include conservation, education, recreation, and sanctuary operations. SDAS leads the way in fostering knowledge and appreciation of the natural world and seeks to become an even more significant resource for our communities through our education, environmental recreation, and numerous conservation programs.
