Public Health is participating in a simulated disaster exercise. We are looking for volunteers interested in serving as "victim" role players. Role players should be prepared to lay on the cold groud, wear moulage and act their role for up to 2 hours.

Mission Statement

The mission of the San Luis Obispo County Medical Reserve Corps is to develop partnerships with medical professionals (active and retired) that aid in the education, training and deployment of citizen volunteers and resources in the event of a large scale, local emergency. In addition the San Luis Obispo County Medical Reserve Corps will be utilized to enlist citizen volunteers to assist in the establishment of an organized pool of resources capable of being deployed to support Emergency Management Systems already in place in the event of a major emergency. The goal of the SLOMRC will be that of a support role providing volunteer medical professionals and resources to augment those services in the community that are engaged in the health and welfare of the citizenry.

Description

The San Luis Obispo County Medical Reserve Corps (SLOMRC) is a group of trained volunteers who assist public health efforts during times of special need or disaster, such as during a major communicable disease outbreak, earthquake, flood, tsunami, or act of terrorism. SLOMRC supplements the resources of the local community emergency medical response system and augments staff shortages. SLOMRC also supports public health needs throughout the year by assisting with community health promotion and education. SLOMRC is made up of practicing, retired, or otherwise employed healthcare professional such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, mental health professionals, dentists, pharmacists, veterinarians, physical therapists and more. Community members without medical training such as translators, sign language interpreters, social workers, administrators, and public relations professionals also play a vital role in SLOMRC.
