Are you a barber or a hairstylist, or do you represent a barbershop or salon? The kids at St. Vincent's Villa could use your valuable skills.

St. Vincent's Villa Residential Treatment Center provides comprehensive therapeutic services to children whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to interventions and services provided at home or in the community. While they are with us, a comprehensive plan for therapeutic services is developed based on a thorough assessment of each child and in partnership with the family.

Last year, a local shop donated all forms of barbershop equipment, and we outfitted a room at St. Vincent's Villa as a fully-equipped salon / barbershop. All we need are individuals or groups who would be willing to donate their time and expertise on a monthly basis to serve our kids. Giving a child a haircut and braiding their hair provides an opportunity to build their confidence and make their stay with us seem as normal and non-institutional as possible. Residential treatment staff will, of course, be on hand at all times.

Stylists should be comfortable with all kinds of hair types: boys and girls, as well as curly, straight, and Afro-textured hair. Ability to braid is also a plus.

Suitable for weekday evenings or weekend days or evenings.

When? We are currently scheduling 3-6pm on the first Sunday of each month for this but hoping to go to twice monthly hair cuts as soon as we have a viable pool of stylist-volunteers. We are also open to scheduling other times that suit your schedule.

How? We welcome suitable candidates to volunteer with us once to see what the experience is like. After that, if you want to serve on an on-going basis, we ask that you go through standard screening and attend a Pre-Service Training session for volunteers.
