Help a child learn to read before the 4th grade. Studies have shown that students who have not properly learned to read by the 4th grade have a significantly increased chance of dropping out of school. We focus on tackling the problem of child illiteracy by working with students early in education. Tutoring and mentoring students in Kindergarten & 1st will help supplement the education they receive in the classroom by providing a positive role model who will encourage them to read and learn. Tutor times will only be available from 12:00-1:40 pm.

Volunteer at either Kaiser or Hayes Elementary for 30 minutes a week per student.

Fluency in Spanish and English is a plus, but not required. Many of the students are designated as English as a Second Language (ESL).
