Make a Difference in a Child's Life

ORGANIZATION: Guardian ad Litem

We need volunteers to give 10-15 hours per month to advocate for a child who has been abused or neglected. No experience is necessary. We will offer you all the training you need.

Right now, in Marion, Lake, Citrus , Sumter and Hernando counties nearly 1,600 children are involved with the child welfare and judicial systems. Most of these children are younger than eight years of age. Due to their circumstances, they’re living with relatives or in foster care.

The Guardian ad Litem Program is a state and county funded organization that relies on trained volunteers to help these children cope with their difficult and challenging situations. Under the supervision of a human services professional and attorney, the volunteer advocates for the child’s best interests in court. They assist their child through the ups and downs of the process and see that no one forgets that behind that case number is a child who longs for a stable home life.
