The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) Volunteer Program needs volunteers. Make a difference by volunteering with a person who is blind. No special skills are required. MCB will provide training on how to assist an individual who is blind and will match you with a consumer in or near your community. Volunteers work one-on-one with a consumer on a recurring basis. Volunteers assist with reading, friendly visits, shopping and errands. You might help a consumer go through the weekly mail, pick up a prescription together at the pharmacy, or spend time visiting and sharing stories. You will tell us which of these tasks you are willing to help with.

We ask for at least a three-month commitment, and volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. You will need to attend a one-time orientation session. During this time, we talk with you about facts and myths concerning blindness, share experiences and stories about doing this type of volunteer work, and teach you how to be a sighted guide. In addition to filling out a short volunteer application, a CORI check and references are required.
