Podcast Organizer Needed
As a RG Volunteer Podcast Organizer, you will be a part of the Scientific Education team that produces educational podcasts for our patient based audience. You will help the team in finding scientific experts and conduct disease specific background research for reporting trips. You will also pitch ideas for upcoming podcasts, transcribe and conduct interviews and assist with the production of podcast and web projects at RG.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature reviews through available resources

  • Conduct research for experts and correspondents to support disease related podcast/webinar

  • Transcribe interviews/podcast/patient stories

  • Write blog posts and announcements as assigned

  • Fact-check scientific literature as needed

  • Help track interview archives on internal web site

  • Contribute to editorial and web meetings

  • Contribute to monthly podcast production

  • Secure permission to license/upload audio material

  • Help maintain show archives and equipment as assigned

  • Perform various administrative tasks

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Hold a professional or advanced degree

  • Ability to write, meet deadlines, and work independently

  • Ability to type and work on PC-based programs like Windows XP, Word and Excel, and possess general computer skills, including Internet-based research

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrated interest in scientific journalism, rare diseases and documentaries

  • Daily tracking of rare disease in print and media

  • Knowledge of web hosting

Description

Rare Genomics Institute (RGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping rare disease
patients find a diagnosis, treatment, and pathway to a cure. Through personalized research
projects, RGI provides access to world leading medical institutions and scientists to conduct
genomic sequencing, coordinates with clinicians and counselors to interpret findings, and offers an
online crowd-funding platform to deliver financial solutions. RGI also supports rare disease
advocacy by fostering an online community of rare disease patients and supporting rare disease
research through a yearly grant competition.

Since being founded in 2011, RGI has completed over 300 genetic sequencing and analysis
projects, assisted patients fund over $3.5 million worth of genomic sequencing, discovered 8
unique genetic mutations in-house, given over $2 million dollars in grants to researchers on rare
disease, and developed an online community with over 10,000 rare disease members.
Through volunteers, RGI is able to slowly push science and health care forward to meet the needs
