Story TIme at the Library

If you’re a high school student who enjoys children, loves libraries, and wants to improve your leadership skills consider applying for the Santa Cruz Public Libraries’ brand new Teen Story Time Institute this summer!

Under the direction of SCPL Librarians, participants will learn to select appropriate books for toddlers and young children, develop read-aloud skills, and learn how to create a dynamic story time program utilizing books, crafts, activities and songs. After training and observation, students will have an opportunity to lead a minimum of two story time sessions.

Students will receive certificates of completion at the conclusion of the program.

The Teen Story Time Institute runs from June 16 - July 27. After the mandatory trainings on June 16 and 17 students will be able to choose days/times each week to observe and participate in story times at the Downtown, Garfield Park, Scotts Valley or La Selva Beach branches.

Requirements: applicants must be available to attend two training sessions at the Downtown Library: June 16 from 2-3:30 pm and June 17 from 1-2:30 pm.
