North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) is hosting a Gran Fondo style, timed bike ride in honor of Collier Lilly. The ride offers two beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain routes, the 83 mile Gran route with 8,600 feet of climbing and the 46 mile Medio with 3,600 feet of climbing, that will start and end at Carrier Park in Asheville. In keeping with Outward Bound’s bedrock principles of "challenge and discovery," the Collier Lilly Ride for NCOBS will take riders over challenging mountain passes and allow them to discover scenic roads for the first time. Modeled after Europe’s popular Gran Fondos , the Collier Lilly Ride for NCOBS will feature timed King of the Mountain (KOM) segments for the long ride, including prizes for the fastest riders up each climb (only on the Gran route). This exciting event is being held on Memorial Day Weekend and in conjunction with the ever popular Mountain Sports Festival.

Description
Move beyond your perceived limitations with the leader in experiential and outdoor education.
For nearly 50 years, North Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) has been delivering challenging outdoor adventures for people of all ages and walks of life. Every Outward Bound course is built around a progression that delivers powerful life lessons by encouraging participants to safely and confidently step outside their comfort zones while traveling in spectacular wilderness areas. We primarily choose to use the wilderness as our classroom where our objective is to train students through the wilderness, not forthe wilderness.
Through these experiences, participants learn important skills for life, such as leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork. A large part of Outward Bound focuses on group dynamics and development, however it can be a very personal experience as well. By conquering their own challenges, participants discover their true potential and realize they are capable of more than they ever imagined.
NCOBS is a non-profit organization and is part of an international network of Outward Bound schools. Since its founding in 1941, Outward Bound has been helping participants discover or develop their strength of character, ability to lead and desire to serve. Each year Outward Bound serves a quarter of a million individuals internationally through its diverse programs.
