People are online searching for someone who will listen and be an encouraging voice in their life. Faced with troubled marriages, parenting challenges or struggles with addiction, depression or grief, millions of people interact online every day looking for information and direction.

Whether from home or local hotspot, Focus on the Family's Online Mentor Program is a flexible way to positively impact someone’s life by offering encouragement and sharing experiences while pointing people to life-changing Christian resources. We provide a comprehensive training process and supportive counseling coaches so you feel equipped to interact in different situations where you can bring hope.

Perks

  • Comprehensive, self-paced training is provided

  • Community or Christian Service hours and Internship credits may be satisfied

Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Willingness to serve 2-4 hours per week

  • Basic knowledge of social media

  • Understanding of how to use a web browser

  • Ability to exercise discernment

  • Willingness to share the Gospel

Computer System Recommendations

  • Access to a MAC, PC or tablet

  • Users will need to have a personal email

  • We strongly advise anti-virus protection

  • Windows XP, Windows 7/Vista or Mac OS X

  • 2 GB of memory

  • 1024X768 Screen resolution

  • High Speed Internet Access (preferably a 6MB/sec via cable or DSL)

Volunteer Duties:

  • Using Focus provided tools, OM will interact in online conversations

  • Create and maintain a presence in online communities

  • Act as a trusted and compassionate guide offering reliable support, real world experience and showing genuine care and respect

  • Make personally relevant connections by meeting on common grounds, being authentic and showing empathy for real-life individual needs
