ORGANIZATION: College Summit

Connect to your students as a Writing Coach

  • Writing Coaches work in small teams of four to six students to jump start the college application process, beginning with the personal statement/essay
  • Work collaboratively with other volunteers to provide the best service to students possible
  • Empower high school seniors to reach their true potential

Writing Coach qualifications

  • Commit to four days and three nights (Thursday - Sunday) on a college campus - all campus lodging and meals are provided
  • Experience working with youth as a tutor, mentor, teacher, or other related field a plus
  • Good communication and active listening skills
  • Experience and/or willingness to work with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Desire to make a difference
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Ability to work in an emotionally intense and rewarding environment

Annually serving 36,000 students in 9 th through 12 th grade, College Summit is the nation’s largest nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of low-income youth by connecting them to college and career. College Summit uses peer leadership, custom curricula, real-time student performance data and technology to help get these high school students from low-income communities to and through college.

Many, if not most, will be the first in their families to attend college
