Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey has 62 Service Units throughout our 7 counties in New Jersey that each comprise of a Servite Unit Team of multiple volunteers in various positions. Each Service Unit Team has many dedicated volunteers working to build the Girl Scout experience in their immediate area.

The role of the Service Unit Team and its members is to promote and uphold the mission of GSHNJ and GSUSA in partnership with Council staff in order to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Specific emphasis is on reaching girls and adults from every demographic within Council jurisdiction. Volunteer management teams guide and support local Girl Scouting ensuring Council policies and procedures are administered and adhered to.

Service unit team members and troop representatives meet several times throughout the year to share ideas, receive training, and talk about important announcements.

The team may help by:

  • Arranging meeting places for troops to meet
  • Being responsible for communicating with girls and parents/guardians
  • Locating adults with special skills to facilitate a specialized meeting
  • Assisting with trips and chaperoning
  • Managing group records

Mission Statement

Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

Description

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey (GSHNJ) believes in the power of every girl. Our leadership program is designed to help a girl discover who she is, what she can do, and connects her with a powerful community of girls and mentors to make it happen. With unique opportunities, Girl Scouts explore, learn, succeed and take action to make a difference in their community.

Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey serves 18,000 girls and 8,000 adults throughout Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Somerset, Union, southern Warren, and parts of Middlesex counties. Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5-17 regardless of race, creed, nationality or socio-economic status.

At Girl Scouts, we strive to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Being a Girl Scout volunteer is a very rewarding experience. You get to help provide unforgettable and life-changing experiences to girls while teaching them a variety of life skills that will help them be successful in the future. You’re a role model, leader, friend, mentor, and teacher all in one. We couldn’t do any of that if it wasn’t for our hard-working volunteers. That means YOU!
