ORGANIZATION: Mercy Volunteer Corps

Hands on Hartford offers a variety of unique programs for families, children, the elderly, and those living with HIV/AIDS: meal assistance, nutritional and wellness programs, family school connection, as well as several advocacy programs. Two volunteers are needed. The first position is with the Community Meals Program which responds to the immediate needs of the clients by providing resources within the community (food, clothing, transportation, employment and referral assistance). The volunteer will meet with clients and direct them to the needed resources. The second position is with the Community Pantry Program, a full service shopping-model pantry. The volunteer will process food donations, manage requests for assistance, and assist clients with food selection in the pantry. Conversational Spanish knowledge is preferred for each position.

While serving full-time for 1 year at this site, volunteers also commit to living a simple lifestyle in community with other volunteers and sharing their spirituality.
