PICC Volunteer
This is a volunteer working in our Public Information Call Center (PICC), also known as the "Flu Hotline" during the H1N1 outbreak. She is working to answer calls and questions from the general public regarding H1N1, vaccination and other public health inquiries.

The Public Health Reserve Corps (PHRC) is a group of local medical and non-medical workers who can augment Public Health as volunteers during a public health emergency or disaster. We are looking for multi-lingual volunteer to help community through daily volunteer work and emergency setting.

Time Required:

The minimum time required to become a volunteer is approximately 8 hours including orientation and online trainings. After becoming an active volunteer, the Public Health Reserve Corps is very much an opt-in experience; meaning that volunteers are able to choose their involvement level.

Volunteer Roles:

Medical roles:

  • Dispensing antibiotics
  • Injecting vaccines
  • Reviewing health histories
  • Conducting medical screening
  • Performing patient exams
  • Patient care
  • Triage
  • Outreach and education
  • Basic life support

Non-medical roles:

  • Interpretation
  • Transporting patients
  • Staffing a call center to provide information about a disease
  • Setting up hospital equipment
  • Greeting and directing people through a medication center
  • Managing the flow of people through a medication center

Requirement:

  • Multi-lingual(Mandarin, Vietnamese or Cantonese)
  • 18 years old or older
  • Outgoing and enjoys working with people and helping people
  • works well in a team

The mission of the PHRC is to enhance Public Health's ability to respond to public health emergencies or disasters to limit injury, illness, suffering and death.

Description

The Public Health Reserve Corps is the largest Medical Reserve Corps in Washington State. We are poised to help our community in a variety of settings during both medical emergencies and Disasters. When every minute counts the PHRC will be there to:

  • Set up, and run a temporary field hospital, emergency shelter, or medication center
  • Dispensing medications
  • Administering vaccinations
  • Providing information and support to the community
  • Conducting health screening

But when we are not in a medical emrgency or disaster, our volunteers work in teh at risk community to provide medical care, screening and referrals.
