Online Media Watch Interns will monitor major blogs and post responses to any inaccurate or inflammatory information about Islam and Muslims, providing readers of blogs with fact-based, accurate and educational information about American Muslims.

Responsibilities:

  • Construct compelling messaging points to use to emphatically respond to specific popularly-held misconceptions about Islam and Muslims
  • Post educational information on online blogs
  • Consistently compile empirical research by credible sources on topics related to Islam and Muslims

Requirements:

  • Possess excellent written, verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to construct strategic, compelling messaging
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and under very strict time constraints
  • Highly motivated to correct popular perceptions of Islam and Muslims
  • Possess sophisticated understanding of Americans' attitudes and values, based on surveys and research findings
  • A strong interest in, and familiarity with, online and print news media, especially concerning stories and issues related to Islam and Muslims.

Time commitment: A minimum six month, 20 hours per week commitment is required. Internship hours must be completed in the office, within the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Office location: Our physical office (different from our mailing address) is very conveniently located near downtown Seattle just two blocks east of Metro's International District Tunnel Station. Any bus that goes to downtown Seattle from across the Puget Sound region can drop you off within 2 blocks of our office.

CAIR is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group. CAIR-Washington is a not-for-profit organization registered in Washington. Though it leverages the resources, expertise, and knowledge base of CAIR (based in Washington D.C.), it functions as an independent organization that sets its own strategy and goals.
