Heartland Alliance is currently seeking interns for an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Chicago youth this summer. The Summer Youth Program Intern will work with the Director of summer youth employment programming to coordinate programs serving teens, ages 15-19 in diverse paid summer work and enrichment experiences. Summer Youth Program Interns should preferably be available mid-May - mid-August and work a minimum of 12 hours per week. Summer Youth Program Interns will gain valuable experience in youth development programming and non-profit administration.
Summer Youth Program Intern - 4419 N Ravenswood Ave. and other various locations
May-August, flexible start and end date, at least 12 hours a week
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in recruiting, screening and orienting youth participants for the programs
- Orienting and assisting program mentors and instructors
- Assisting with administrative hiring and payroll processes for youth participants
- Maintenance of participant files and data entry
- Assisting with youth programming and events as needed
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 12 hours per week availability
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Must pass a background check
- Patience and flexibility.
- Proficiency in Microsoft excel.

Description
Refugee & Immigrant Community Services (RICS) partners with refugees, asylees, immigrants and survivors of trafficking to address their needs by connecting them to their new community, providing education and employment services, and the help they need to succeed in their new country. RICS annually resettles more than 150 individuals in Chicago from places like Afghanistan, Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, Ukraine, and Syria. RICS serves an additional 500 refugees through a variety of services including cultural orientation, adjustment counseling, employment, job readiness and placement services, as well as medical case management, family literacy, and English language training for adults.
