A day of fun and good works at Celestial Farms! We will have oportunities for you to help with Animal Welfare Projects, or Gardening. We can find something useful for everyone to do!
Volunteers must be over the age of 16 if they are not to be attended by a parent or guardian.
Sturdy but light clothes should be worn, as this is a farm, you will be working in the heat of the day, and you will be getting dirty! We suggest boots (rubber rain boots work great, work boots are good too if there is no mud) or sneakers you don't mind getting dirty, khakis or jeans (shorts are fine if you're comfortable in them, but mind that there is dirt/bugs/stinging nettle on this farm, and it might be your job to work with them!), t-shirt, a hat or bandanna, sun screen, and bug spray. We will provide bottled water, lemonade, and snacks, but feel free to bring your own! Please note that no drugs, alcohol, or smoking are permitted on premises (there is a smoking area in the parking field). All volunteers are required to read the volunteer handbook and sign a waiver. THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT. We have an indoor area to meet and work on small projects on. Please bring a raincoat or umbrella if it threatens to rain (it is spring in Florida, it will always rain).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A WORKING FARM. There are animals, dirt, and some smells. We try to keep the smells to a minimum with rigorous sanitation and cleaning, but the dirt and animals are part of the whole 'farm' thing. You do not have to be around any animals you are uncomfortable with, as all are in enclosures (except for some free roaming chickens and 2 farm cats).

To assist people of all abilities to enjoy the therapeutic benefits that caring for a farm and garden can provide, and save livestock animals from abusive situations.
Description
We hope to "Grow a Brighter Future" by helping to raise healthy and happy children in our preschool and summer camp programs, educating the public on how to grow their own food and providing a garden space for them to practice those skills, and utilizing sustainable practices to nurture the plants and animals that share our lives. Through these practices, we nourish bodies, minds, and environment.
The new farm has multiple gardens that are growing and changing with the needs of the farm and the people that we help. This includes a sensory garden with plants to touch, taste, and smell; a community garden where volunteers and families in need work together to bring healthy food to the families’ tables; a whimsical garden, populated with over-sized flowers made from teacups and saucers and friendly garden toads and gnomes, where the children scatter seeds.
The farm also has lots of animals, of course. Caring for animals has many well-known therapeutic benefits, and we do what we can to provide the opportunity to reap those benefits to people of all ages and abilities. If some of those are unable to come to the farm, we even bring the animals out for a visit. The children in our care enjoy these benefits more than most, as they help care for the animals and enjoy the companionship on a daily basis.
There are many ways you can help out and there are just as many ways you can enjoy the benefits the farm has to offer.
