Join us for a unique volunteer opportunity - and an opportunity to help the Museum grow!
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History seeks garden hobbyist to join the Nuclear Garden Society. As a member of the Nuclear Gardening Club, you will team up with other volunteers to help maintain the Museum’s current landscaping and transform the 12-acre property into a welcoming space. We are seeking volunteers who are willing, not only to roll up their sleeves, but also to help build a new volunteer program and work towards completing our landscaping.
Primary Duties:
- Serve as a committee member of volunteer-led Nuclear Garden Society
- Work with other volunteers to water and care of existing plants on the property, and to facilitate weed control efforts
- In consultation with staff members, work as a team to raise funds and in-kind donations to complete the irrigation system, and obtain the landscaping materials and plants needed to complete the overall landscaping plans
- Assist with installation of new landscaping plants and materials. This may also include working with Boy Scouts as they complete their Eagle Projects.

Description
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History was established in 1969 as an intriguing place to learn the story of the Atomic Age, from early research of nuclear development through today’s peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Visitors can explore how nuclear science continues to influence our world. The museum strives to present, through permanent and changing exhibits and displays, the diverse applications of nuclear science in the past, present, and future along with the stories of the field’s pioneers.
The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is a Smithsonian Affiliate and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. It is a non-profit, 501(c)3. The Museum hosts approximately 70,000 guests from around the world each year and presents programs to approximately 10,000 children. The Museum runs a science summer camp program within the state, with 300 day-campers learning about ecology, robotics, flight, engineering, medicine and general science.
