Youth Gardening--Volunteer Teens Growing Food for the Needy--2015 Gardening Season Orientation

Our youth gardening program has teens growing food for the needy of Salt Lake. This year, we our planning multiple gardens across the area. This year we are planning multiple gardens throughout the valley.

Whether you are a teen, a parent of a teen, a teacher or church leader, or any other member of the community interested in watching and helping young people make a difference, you are invite to attend.

The program is youth run with the teens making most of the decisions. From planning and panting, to maintaining and harvesting, they lead many aspects of this unique opportunity. And best of all, it is very flexible to accommodate varying schedules.

Teens can get involved in a couple of ways:

Administrative Leadership--2-5 hours a week.

Garden Leadership--2-5 hours a week

Occasional gardening--2-3 hours a month

Much of the work is broken into committees. Here is a partial list of things available:

Outreach---volunteer recruitment and program exposure. Work with media, social media, networking with schools and other groups etc

Events--plans special events for participants and the community.

Education--plan and coordinate educational workshops for participants and community for such things as gardening, nutrition, food preservation and more

Gardening with children--teens work alongside children 3-11 and their parents to hep them develop a love for nature and the garden

Art in the Garden--creates fun art projects in the garden

And more.

Our orientation will be packed with informative information and mini workshops, hands on activiites, and more about how you can get involved and make a difference.

We are also a certified organization for participants to receive their Presidential Service Award from Washington DC. This boost very well when applying for college.
