Volunteer to Host Pan-Africa Youth Leaders!

Discover a new culture together and build life-long friendships -- host an international student!

The U.S. Department of State's Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program will bring 20 French-speaking high school students and mentors to Chicago from Chad, Cote D'Ivoire, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Togo, Mauritania. WorldChicago seeks volunteer host families for this 9-day exchange program from August 13-21. Help us welcome them and make their Chicago experience unforgettable! Anyone can be a host! Our incredible roster of homestay hosts include families of all shapes and sizes, single young professionals, retirees, returned Peace Corps volunteers, travelers, teachers, city dwellers, suburbanites, and more -- all united by a common interest in learning about the amazing diversity of African cultures, while sharing a piece of their own. Hosts provide a bed and most meals, but more importantly help immerse our youth to everyday life in America. WorldChicago provides transportation, lunch, cell phones, and program activities weekdays 9 to 5. Participants, ages 15-18, are selected for these distinguished programs via a competitive, merit-based process. Programs focus on civic engagement, leadership, diversity, and community service, with sub-themes of entrepreneurship and employment. Host a student for a week, make a friend for life. Volunteer today!

Mission Statement

WorldChicago facilitates professional and personal interactions for international leaders during official visits to Chicago through U.S. Department of State sponsored exchange programs; enhances respect and communication through international exchanges and alliances; and promotes the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois as important centers of business and culture.

Description

WorldChicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that arranges citizen diplomacy programs for international professionals, scholars, and youth participating in U.S. Department of State and other short-term exchange programs in Chicago.

WorldChicago offers Chicago-area citizens opportunities to forge professional relationships with visiting international leaders and youth explore their fields of interest through meetings with Chicago’s leading voices in the public, private, nonprofit, and tech sectors.

More than 20% of our visitors reside with host families during their stay in Chicago. This is often the highlight of our visitors’ time in Chicago, forging deeper connections and more meaningful cross-cultural exchange. WorldChicago also organizes dinners and social outings for our visitors to engage with Chicago’s diverse, globally-minded citizens.

WorldChicago is an affiliate of Global Ties U.S., a nonprofit membership association with more than fifty years of leadership in citizen diplomacy. Together with more than ninety community partner members and the U.S. Department of State Citizen Diplomacy programs, WorldChicago helps shape international relations "one handshake at a time."
