VolunteenCounselors-in-Training (CIT), ages 16 and 17 only, will assist the Detroit Zoo's Summer Safari Camp staff. Camp takes place in weekly seesions, June 22-August 14. The minimum commitment is to attend mandatory training on June 6 or 17 and then volunteer for at least two full weeks of camp sessions. An application and interview process is required for acceptance into the program, Application materials can be found online on the Volunteer page at www.detroitzoo.org. Or contact Volunteer Services at volunteer@dzs.org to request the application.

Each camp has a specific theme with related tours and activities for children in grade K-8. CITs will interact with these campers and take part in all activities under the supervision of adult staff. Successful candidates must enjoy working with young children and have an interest in concepts and issues of biology, environmental or life science and similar disciplines. Reliable transportation to/from the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is necessary.

The Detroit Zoological Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of 10 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696, in Royal Oak, Michigan.
