NF Upper Midwest is a small nonprofit dedicated to supporting those with neurofibromatosis (NF), a chronic, lifelong genetic disorder that causes tumor growth with debilitating and sometimes life-threatening effects. We serve the Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota geographical area by: hosting fellowship events, providing information and referral, sponsoring kids to go to NF camp, awarding grants to attend NF related conferences, offering financial assistance to individuals or to family members with NF to assist with issues or emergencies related to NF, and lobbying to ensure continued federal funding of NF related research.

Board members are charged with setting policy, actively fundraising, ensuring financial stability and growth, board development and assisting operationally with the annual fundraising walk and quarterly fellowship meet-ups. Terms are two years which may be renewed twice. Board meetings are held every other month in Minneapolis, from 6 to 8 P.M. You should have at least one or more of the following skills or experiences: prior board experience; event/project management; strong written and verbal communication skills (we are currently in need of a Secretary); marketing; fundraising; donor/database management; grant writing; medical knowledge of NF; legal; website development/maintenance; critical/strategic thinking; human resources; and a passion to make a difference!

Minnesota Council of Nonprofits trainings are made available for free to all board members.
