DESCRIPTION:

National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) is an international nonprofit organization. The mission is to improve the quality of care for people with Parkinson’s disease through research, education and outreach. Please visit our website at: www.parkinson.org. The Signature Events Intern will work in conjunction with the Manager of National Signature Events to better establish and promote branded signature walk events, including our Moving Day Walk for Parkinson’s program, which raises funds and awareness to further the organization’s mission. This position reports to the Manager of National Signature Events.

INTERNSHIP DATES/LOCATION:

This position will be part-time (M, W, F) with flexible hours (up to 15 hours per week), from May through the November. The Signature Events Intern should have the capacity to work from home and have access to a computer (with Internet access) and a phone. Please note: there are no reimbursements for computer/phone usage and all reimbursements must be approved in advance by the Manger of National Signature Events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with special projects and ongoing support to the Manager of National Signature Events
  • Provide support for other Moving Day Coordinators/Managers as needed
  • Assist with social media updates and online event postings
  • Draft and proof communication pieces and documents
  • Assist with administrative tasks like mailings and marketing distribution, in addition to data entry, research and phone calls
  • Assist with and attend special events/programs and projects as needed, including Moving Day Atlanta (Oct. 25, 2015)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and focus on accuracy
  • Ability to meet deadlines, anticipating quickly changing needs and exercising good judgment
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to develop and document stored procedures, applications, invoices and reports
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate status of tasks and projects, and any challenges encountered
  • Ability to make phone calls and interact with a wide variety of people
  • Good work ethic and ability to organize time and manage it effectively working from home

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Experience in nonprofit (specifically charitable fundraising events) preferred
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
    • Demonstrated proficiency in database management and a familiarity with donor/customer database and online fundraising tools, preferably, experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar customer relationship database and with an online fundraising platform is preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects, prioritizes tasks and meets deadlines, as well as responds to changing priorities
  • Strong technical skills, including experience with the Microsoft Software Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and web-based media, are required
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures (filing, typing, copying, and record keeping, written business correspondence and telephone etiquette)

This is an unpaid position. College credit may be available depending on the requirements of your job or university.
