Georgia Cares serves youth throughout the state of Georgia, between the ages of 12 and 17, who have been identified as survivors of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking. The role of Volunteer Mentor provides community members an opportunity to be a positive, encouraging, and supportive adult in the life of a survivor. The goals of the Mentor Program are for youth to foster healthy relationships with adults, develop assets and strengths together, and to empower youth to achieve their individualized goals. Ultimately, we believe that this positive relationship will provide support to a youth in their transition to being a healthy, productive, thriving member of society.
This volunteer role requires dedication and commitment from the mentor in the following ways:
- Commit to a year of regular contact and building relationship with the youth mentee. This year long commitment does not begin until after training is completed and the match has been made.
- Complete 13 hours of foundational training to be eligible to be matched with a youth mentee. Completion of an additional 3 hours of training during the one year commitment is also required. Training for the Mentor Program is offered on a quarterly basis and begins in January, April, July, and October of each year.
- 10 hours of contact with each youth mentee (mentors can be assigned up to 3 youth at a time, if desired) every month. This includes weekly contact with the youth mentee via in-person visit, phone call/text, etc.
- Minimum of one 30-minute supervision call each month with the Mentor Coordinator.
Visit www.gacares.org for more information about requirements for mentor volunteers and to download our volunteer application. Please submit applications to admin@gacares.org. A Georgia Cares staff member will follow-up within a few days after receiving the application with more information and requirements.
