ORGANIZATION: Midwives for Haiti

The Midwives for Haiti (MFH) In-Country Director is responsible for overseeing on-the-ground operations in Hinche, Haiti (where the headquarters is located) including coordinating, directing and supervising the day to day operations and in-country house and program staff. The position is responsible for in-country strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation and developing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, community partners and stakeholders. This position requires a competent and energetic individual.

Strategy - Monitoring and Evaluation and Development

  • Develop and maintain oversight of the MFH Strategic Plan, working in collaboration with Executive Director and Board, is monitoring progress
  • Ensure high quality programming through evaluation and participatory planning methods working in close collaboration with the in-country staff including Volunteer, Education and Program Coordinators
  • Oversee data collection and improve system of collection methods for all programs to support evaluation and quality control, working closely with in country staff.
  • Improve systems and processes of in-country operations through regular documentation, review and revision
  • Provide regular written reports to Executive Director and Board of Directors on in country operations including activities, progress and challenges. Preparing background information to support decision-making

Relationship Management and Communications

  • Engage key community contacts, program partners and other stakeholders through regular meetings, reporting, and other forms of communication
  • Reach out to other similar organizations to network and form a community of practice to guide programming and policy development
  • Develop a database of key contacts and partners
  • Communicate regularly with the Executive Director and provide Board of Directors with reports on in-country operations and programming
  • Maintain regular contact with volunteer alumni and donor base through social media and other forms of communication
  • Work to support Marketing/Development Director with program media material

Human Resources

  • Provide oversight and direction to all in-country staff
  • Regularly conduct staff meetings, maintain open lines of communication to resolve conflicts, receive feedback, provide constructive criticism, and acknowledge staff
  • Provide supervision and support to the Education Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and House Manager in their duties
  • Manage scheduling, leave and vacation requests for all in-country staff
  • Ensure staff are properly supported in their position and receive guidance and resources needed to excel in their position through development and oversight of performance evaluation system
  • Provide annual evaluation feedback on job performance to all in country staff
  • Ensure a safe and productive workplace free from discrimination for all staff and volunteers in accordance with MFH values through development and enforcement of policies
  • Ensure compliance of programs and staff management with MFH personnel policies, Haitian laws and regulations
  • Maintain employee records and personnel documentation
  • Report regularly to Administrative Director and Executive Director and Board of Directors on human resources matters

Finances and Accounting

  • Provide direction and oversight to all in-country financial, accounting and donation operations
  • Develop policies around in-country finances and rates and fees in agreement with Executive and Administrative Directors
  • Oversee monthly spending, cash management, petty cash and other expenditures completing monthly reconciliation reports
  • Send monthly reconciliation reports to Administrative Director
  • Document, process and approve employee loan requests
  • Approve all major vehicle repairs, working closely with House Manager
  • Ensure proper accounting and documentation for all in-country finances
  • Provide input to Administration and Board of Directors on development of annual budget and reporting
  • Oversee equity related to in-country salary and compensation

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Proficiency in French or Haitian Creole
  • Graduate degree in development or health-related field (Nursing, Public Health, International Development, etc.)
  • At least one year of relevant program management experience in Haiti or in a similar setting preferred
  • Knowledge of and experiences with global maternal and infant health, promising practices and evidence based programming, highly desired.
  • Demonstrated management and supervision skills required
  • Experience in the planning, coordination and operation of a complex project required
  • Ability to handle multiple detail-oriented tasks and projects, often on a time-sensitive basis
  • Experience using current technology to communicate and prepare materials and products
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience developing relationships with a variety of agencies, organizations and stakeholders

This position requires a proactive person with a passion for serving others and strong organizational and planning skills. It requires supervision of staff and experience working in a team and having a managerial role. The position requires a self-motivated problem solver with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Haitian Creole is highly recommended, French language skills are also desirable.

Salary: Based on experience, Room and Board included

Start Date: Summer 2015

Work Days: Position is based on a 40-50 hour work week and requires availability evenings and weekends.

Length of Commitment: 2 years

Located in Hinche, Haiti, Midwives For Haiti was founded for the purpose of saving the lives of mothers and babies in Haiti. Because of the lack of skilled birth attendants Haiti has the highest maternal and infant mortality in the Western Hemisphere. The training Midwives For Haiti provides to Haitian women helps them become skilled birth attendants in their communities and enables them to have an income to support their families. Midwives For Haiti serves thousands of women each year with prenatal care and care during and after birth that includes screening for risks and treatment with the appropriate medications and interventions.
