Are you a passionate portrait photographer or personal videographer living in San Diego County, California? Are you a music lover? We would really appreciate your assistance taking candid program photos in our local teacher training workshops and classroom teaching artist residencies.

If you like being around teachers and students and have interest and time, we'd love to talk with you. The ability to capture joy, surprise, creativity and positive interactions as teachers and students learn to make music is what we are after. Close ups are key to storytelling! We also hold house concerts every few months and this will give you a chance to photograph professional (and amazing) San Diego musicians.

If you are applying for this volunteer position, please be sure you have access to a DSLR or other high quality camera and any lenses you need. For shooting video, we will also want to build in audio support and can work with you on that. Don't do video? That's okay, too. We are grateful for all help.

GITC is a grass roots organization providing free music programs to schools, and everyone who helps is making a very real difference for children. If this volunteer opportunity sounds like fun and you have 1-2 hours a month to spend with us, even this small amount of time can be very beneficial.

Thanks for taking the time to consider offering your assistance.

About Guitars in the Classroom

Location:

1286 University Ave. #398, San Diego, CA 92103, US

Mission Statement

Guitars & Ukes in the Classroom trains, equips and inspires K-12 educators and staff to teach all subjects through the power of song. GITC's professional development courses and classroom residencies, funded by donors, support highly-engaged student learning and restore music to its rightful place in childhood and society.

Description

Our work prepares educators to lead music, confidently employing it as a dynamic tool for reaching all learners, teaching all subjects, and building character, creativity and community.

GITC programs are free. They include "easy" group guitar, singing, song-leading and collaborative songwriting instruction on an ongoing basis through six sequential course levels, in accordance with educational content standards. GITC's sponsors from the music products industry make it possible for the teachers to borrow guitars and recieve their musical accessories, resource materials, and pedagogical support at no charge.

GITC takes a grassroots approach to building strong local musical programs that unite teachers, decision makers, artists, families, business people, associations, foundations, and generous individuals in a common endeavor- to revive and restore music to its rightful place in our lives, schools and culture.
