ORGANIZATION: Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center

  • 1 person is interested

Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory will be conducting two new events this year and we are seeking people who are interested in being on the event committee and assist with organizing the events. We need people to assist with planning educational seminars, entertainment, vendors, advertising and promotions, etc...

Much of the effort can be done online and over the telephone, however the events themselves will take place at Ninigret Park in Charlestown and there will be occasional meetings in the southern Rhode Island area.

First event is in mid-May so time is rather urgent - second event is the end of July.

Please contact me for more information. Thank You!

About Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center

Mission Statement

Frosty Drew Memorial Fund, Inc: Enlighten, discover, inspire- through education and research- knowledge about science, the night sky, and the universe.

Description

Frosty Drew Observatory and Science Center is Southern New England's gateway to the Milky Way! We are located at one of the darkest sites in Southern New England where thousands of stars are visible overhead.

Frosty Drew, our namesake, was interested in a wide range of ecological and conservation activities, particularly along Rhode Island's beautiful shores. As a child, Frosty contracted polio, weakening him through life and contributing to his death at the age of 28.

Our programs focus on education of both children and adults:

1) Weekly Stargazing Nights events

2) Themed events focused on meteor showers, observing the Milky Way, and other celestial events.

3) School field trips focusing on astronomy, conservation, astrophysics, and the night sky.

4) BSA scouting field trips focused on astronomy badge achievement.
