A VISTA member is sought to serve as Volunteer Coordinator for the Volunteer Ombudsman Program with the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman. These members will work in tandem with other VISTAs to develop programming in Iowa's aging network, including LifeLong Links Aging and Disability Resource Centers, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), the Office of the Substitute Decision Maker, and support services offered to older Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, and disabled veterans.
The selected candidates should be available to begin in late July 2016. Bachelor's degrees are preferred but not required.
The selected candidates will:
- familiarize themselves with VOP practices.
- observe and participate in VOP interviews, training, and volunteer management.
- assist with VOP programs and projects.
- manage Volunteer Ombudsmen in assigned region(s) of the state according to VOP procedure.
One (of two VISTAs assigned to this site) is sought to focus on development of the program, and will:
- lead development of VOP to enhance volunteer engagement, funding, and new program initiatives.
- evaluate VOP effectiveness and research enhancements.
- coordinate ongoing education for volunteers, including regional events, webinars and online resource library, and local/regional peer groups.
- research and pursue funding opportunities to expand the program.
Benefits include: $11,676 living stipend, health plan, $5,730 education scholarship or cash completion bonus, and more.

Description
The Long-Term Care Ombudsmen are there to help answer questions about assisted living and elder group programs, nursing and residential care facilities, as well as the wide variety of issues that arise. They are here to support the choices of residents and tenants and act as an advocate.
