Mission Statement

Silicon Valley FACES builds a caring and inclusive community free of bias and bigotry by bringing people together through educational programs and supporting victims of crime.

Description

Silicon Valley FACES offers educational programs that empower students of all ages to be leaders who foster inclusive communities: 1) Building Connections is a four-week diversity education program for kindergarten through fifth grade. Trained volunteer facilitators help students develop a positive sense of self-worth and value similarities and differences among people. In a safe and inclusive environment, children learn to resolve conflicts with positive problem solving skills; 2) Extremes of Hate is a critical thinking program using the Holocaust and other incidents of genocide as a historical context to teach about hate violence; 3) Common Ground Enrichment Institute is a week-long summer program for incoming high school freshmen. The program lays the foundation for successful transition from middle school to high school and provides an experience for incoming freshmen to feel safe, connected, and motivated for positive participation in high school; 4) Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing, Art and Multimedia Contest is an annual program which gives students an opportunity to keep Dr. King’s lessons of racial equality and human rights alive, and 5) Camp Everytown , a four-day, three-night leadership camp experience for high school students designed to create communities of respect and inclusion by reducing stereotypes, bias and prejudice among youth.

Silicon Valley FACES also oversees Santa Clara County’s Victim Witness Assistance Program. The program strives to reduce the trauma of a violent crime by empowering and assisting victims, witnesses and significant others in reconstructing their lives through advocacy, support and referrals.
