Do you wake up early on the weekends? Do you like to cook and have a group of people who want to wake up early and cook breakfast for 40 homeless women in downtown Seattle? This is the opportunity for you.
Hammond House is a women’s shelter where each night, 40 women are provided a safe place to sleep along with a warm, nutritious evening meal and continental breakfast. Showers and toilet facilities are available. Case management is available to guests in this program. This is a behavior based harm reduction program, all are welcome. One of the special treats at Hammond House is weekend breakfast provided by volunteer groups on Saturday and Sunday.
Have fun and make the morning special with a group of friends and family, by cooking breakfast for the women. Volunteer groups arrive at 6am and serve breakfast at 6:30am. There is a small kitchen, where groups can both cook and or re-heat pre-cooked food.
Some of the breakfast meals include:
- Homemade waffles, bacon, eggs, and fresh fruit with juice.
- Home fried potatoes, sausage (both turkey and veggie), eggs, fruit and juice + fixings for sandwiches (lunch meat, bread and cheese).
- Sometimes servers will bring breakfast casseroles, breakfast burritos or make pancakes/French toast.
The ladies love pretty much everything, but they really like having homemade food and fresh fruit and juice.
NOTE: This volunteer opportunity requires planning, purchasing and preparing a meal. We have other volunteer availabilities to assist serving a meal to our guests without the responsibility of preparing and providing the entire meal. If you are an individual interested in helping assist a meal but not planning and cooking it please email volunteer@compasshousingalliance.org or call 206-474-1071 to learn more about other opportunities.
