Martin Luther King Day Serve-a-thon

Organization |
Description
Join The New York City Coalition Against Hunger as we commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend by taking part in our 2nd annual Anti-hunger Serve-a-thon. New Yorkers can commemorate the holiday by volunteering at a soup kitchen or food pantry in any of the five boroughs. We will be placing volunteers on the 15, 16, and 17th of January. Participants may also obtain sponsors to provide tax-deductible donations for each hour of service they perform to raise money for long-term anti-hunger work. This event will not only raise money, but will also help to accomplish much needed work at emergency food agencies. We need volunteers to conduct a wide variety of functions, including: preparing and serving hot meals at soup kitchens; unloading, sorting, inventorying, packaging, and distributing groceries at food pantries; cleaning, painting, and constructing new storage and service spaces; and conducting Food Stamp and Earned Income Tax Credit outreach by distributing materials to clients. Volunteers will be trained for each task. We are also in need of volunteers with technical and professional skills, like accounting and computer technology. To donate your time and services, please contact Carrette Perkins at (212) 825-0028, ext. 211, cperkins@nyccah.org
