ORGANIZATION: Safe Shores--The DC Children's Advocacy Center

Caregiver Support Group is designed for families affected by child sexual abuse and creates a space for them to meet with Safe Shores staff and for caregivers to connect with other caregivers experiencing similar challenges. Volunteers assist with set-up for dinner for the families, as well as help children with their homework and co-facilitate activities (ex. coloring/arts & crafts, board games, reading books, etc.). It is a 10-week program generally held every other Tuesday from 4:30pm-8:00pm.

Description

Safe Shores - The D.C. Children's Advocacy Center is a direct service nonprofit organization dedicated to helping child victims of sexual and physical abuse in the District of Columbia.

Through its child-friendly facility and multidisciplinary team approach, Safe Shores coordinates the work of medical and mental health providers, social services professionals, victim advocates, law enforcement and prosecution officials to reduce trauma and promote healing for child victims of abuse.
