Mission Statement

Focusing on academic attainment, financial literacy, college information and leadership development, Leaders in Training supports east Las Vegas students to become the first in their family to graduate from college and become future Nevada leaders.

With some of the highest high school dropout rates and some of the highest unemployment and foreclosure rates in this nation, Leaders in Training is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that aids underrepresented students to have the (1) academic attainment (2) financial literacy (3) higher education information and (4) leadership skills and social justice mindset to apply, attend, and graduate from a 4-year university in order to make positive and lasting change in our community.

Description

We are a comprehensive four year cohort program using college access research and identity, diversity and inclusiveness curriculum to accomplish our goals. The following program model addresses the main barriers to underrepresented students being accepted to college: academic attainment or great grades, financial literacy from what’s a FAFSA to college affordability and higher education information from required admissions tests to navigating the Common Application. Because first-generation college students face other barriers to actually graduate with a degree, Leaders in Training also focuses on leadership development and a mission of social justice to help students gain the motivation and skills necessary to persist in higher education. All programming is based on our five core values of: perseverance, grit, confidence, advocacy and connectivity.
