Come experience the excitement of running a real two-foot gauge railroad! We will train you to become a brakeman, conductor and even an engineer. Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum volunteers operate the train, and share Maine's narrow gauge railroad history with visitors from around the world. Our trains run along beautiful Casco Bay. Come enjoy Portland's waterfront environment with this fun and unique volunteer opportunity! We will provide the essential training required for these positions. It is important that volunteers are physically able and can commit to a full day of train service (9 am-4 pm).

The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Maine’s two-foot gauge railways for the education and enjoyment of the public. The museum is open daily from May to October and seasonally for special events.
Description
Visitors to the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum have the opportunity to experience the excitement of riding an historic two-foot gauge railroad along the scenic Portland waterfront. Area residents, school children and tourist from around the world visit the railroad each year. A variety of exhibits share the story of what life and travel was like in rural Maine from 1870s to 1940. Through hands on activities, children and adults can learn about the narrow gauge history in Maine. Open daily from May through October, and seasonally for special events, the museum draws over 41,000 visitors a year, with volunteers donating over 10,000 hours annually.
