ORGANIZATION: A Free Bird

A Free Bird is a 501(C)(3)non-profit organization based in New York City. Our focus is to provide children, ages 6-18 who are patients or survivors of juvenile cancer, the opportunity to explore their artistic passions and give them the strength to fight their disease. We believe that artistic expression is critical for healing! A Free Bird supports children affected by cancer in their exploration of art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing and any other artistic passion they may have.


Responsibilities:

Responsible for reporting, editing, publishing, and distributing a AFB newsletter to be used in print and online media. Manage and update newsletter content through research, attendance of AFB events, and consulting with various AFB departments.


Overall Responsibilities:

-Introduce the AFB organization to broader audiences through reporting on AFB’s goals, objectives, what a AFB does, etc.

-Report on completed and upcoming AFB events including but not limited to fundraisers, galas and parties.

-Format and create a layout for presentation of the newsletter.

-Reviewing, proofreading and editing all written materials before publishing.

-Create an archive of AFB journal entries.

-Remain in contact with other departments to receive news of events, changes to programs, new partnerships, and overall AFB updates.

-Attend AFB related events and takes notes and photos/videos.

-Must support and maintain mission goal and statement of organization.


Competencies:

-Has/working towards a degree in Journalism, PR, Communications or related fields.

-Excellent oral written communication skills.

-Understanding of Microsoft Office and Google docs.

-Ability to proofread and edit newsletter entries with special attention to detail.

-Must demonstrate a sense of self-motivation and ability to work with others.
