Kennel volunteers assist in the care of the dogs in advanced training at our facility. Kennel volunteers potty the dogs, prepare meals, groom, play with, and exercise the dogs, care for our kennel kitty Betsy, and do various cleaning tasks in the kennel. There are three shifts of volunteers in the kennel daily: two volunteers from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m., two volunteers from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., and one volunteer from 9:30 - 10:30 p.m. You can volunteer for a regular shift on a weekly basis, or serve as a substitute volunteer on an occasional basis. Kennel volunteers must live within ~30 minutes of our facility.

Immediate Help is needed for the following shifts:

  • Monday 7 - 9 AM,
  • Monday 4 - 6 PM -- TWO slots need to be filled
  • Tuesday 7 - 9 AM,
  • Wednesday 7 - 9 AM,
  • Thursday 7 - 9 AM

Description

Hero Dogs staff and volunteers train dogs to assist Veterans and First Responders with physical limitations and/or mobility issues, hearing loss, mental health disorders, or combinations of these. A Hero Dog reduces their partner's reliance on other people by doing tasks that they cannot do alone. A dedicated service dog can give their partner the confidence and support to travel outside the home independently, (re)join the workforce, and accomplish the everyday tasks of living.
