Mission Statement

R.A.M.P.S. (Ramp Access Made Possible by Students) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) community service organization that offers students the opportunity to help the less fortunate by paying for and assembling modular wheelchair ramps for disabled and elderly people who are in physical and financial need.

Description

These students initiate, plan and execute their fundraising campaigns to pay the cost of the ramps. They are organized into teams of 5 or 6 young men and women and set about raising approximately one third of the cost of the ramp. Student fundraising is accomplished with in-person presentations to local corporations and businesses, or via individual efforts.

An average modular ramp costs $3,000.00, though the cost varies depending upon the length and complexity of the ramp. Each student team raises $1,000 for the ramp they plan to install. The other two-thirds of the cost of the ramp are paid with contributions through local charitable organizations, including foundations, corporations and local businesses.

Ramp recipients are pre-qualified as to their need, importance, and financial necessity by local non-profit groups who work with and care for the elderly.

The students then coordinate the day and time to set the ramp with the recipient. The students meet at the ramp site with their hand tools and assemble the ramp. Upon completion, the ramp recipient is then asked to test drive the ramp several times unassisted.

Once a ramp is no longer needed, the materials are recycled to another needy family in the area.
