ORGANIZATION: Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency

  • 18 people are interested

Help fight the root causes of poverty and homelessness - be part of public education, advocacy, and organizing for social justice in your community!

COT meets every Friday at 3 pm in Downtown Berkeley. This meeting is a crucial part of what the Team does and attendance is vital. Due to the time investment of BOSS staff associated with teaching new volunteers, we request a minimum 3 month commitment from any and all volunteers.

The more members COT has, the bigger impact we are able to have - we need your energy, insight, and enthusiasm for social justice!

Tasks may incude research on pressing issues; writing issue briefs, newsletter articles or op-eds; calling elected officials; attending community planning meetings; and organizing local communities to get involved in social change.

Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS) provides housing and services to homeless, disabled and very low income individuals in Alameda County, California. One of our most exciting projects is the Community Organizing Team (COT). This project is a collective of current and formerly homeless individuals, student interns, and staff who work together to learn about social justice root cause issues, build skills, network with other organizers in the community, and work on public education and organizing campaigns related to poverty and equity.
