Sustainable Resources Center, Inc. (SRC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to create healthy and energy efficient home environments in partnership with families and communities. SRC primarily serves low income residents (both renters and homeowners) in the Twin Cities metro area and surrounding suburbs. Our programs include: Weatherization (air sealing, insulation, and HVAC upgrades); Lead hazard testing, remediation, education and outreach; Radon and mold testing and mitigation; Healthy Homes and building science related training for homeowners and professionals.
Since 1977, SRC has weatherized over 13,000 Minnesota homes. As a leader in outreach and education in the treatment of lead, SRC has tested thousands of children for lead poisoning, made more than 1,500 owner-occupied and rental homes lead-safe, and trained hundreds of people on how to successfully address home hazards.
SRC currently delivers its programs in six languages. The organization values diversity and continuously strives for sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic differences while delivering its programs.

Position: Board Director (volunteer)
The Board supports the work of SRC and provides mission-based leadership, strategic governance, financial & organizational oversight, and policy development.
Major responsibilities of board members:
- Steward the mission and purpose of SRC and provide mission-based organizational leadership and advisement including formulation and oversight of policies and procedures
- Support SRC’s Executive Director and contribute to annual performance evaluations
- Ensure adequate financial resources, protect assets, and provide financial oversight including oversight of annual budgets, annual audits, and major business decisions
- Ensure effective strategic and organizational planning
- Review, monitor and strengthen programs and services
- Build and maintain a competent board and participate on committees as needed
- Ensure legal and ethical integrity of the organization. Be informed of, and meet all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
- Enhance the organization’s public standing
Qualifications:
One or two board members are being sought who have a passion for SRC’s mission, are accomplished in their own field, and are aware of the diverse populations that SRC serves. Although not necessary, new members might have backgrounds in fields such as public health or healthcare, energy or energy conservation, government or political advocacy, and philanthropy or fundraising. Currently board members are asked to do little or no fundraising.
Participation:
Board members are expected to participate in meetings on a regular basis. Eleven meetings are conducted each year (none in August) typically on the third Monday of the month from 4:30pm-6:00pm at the SRC main office. Board members serve a two-year term and are eligible to serve (pending re-appointment by the board) for a maximum of 5 consecutive terms. Service on SRC’s Board of Directors is without remuneration

Since our founding in 1977, SRC has weatherized over 14,000 homes, leading to energy savings and healthier indoor environments. As a leader in the prevention of childhood lead poisoning, we have tested thousands of Minnesota children for lead poisoning, made more than 1,300 owner-occupied and rental homes lead-safe, and trained hundreds of people on how to successfully address home hazards. SRC is located in Minneapolis Minnesota and primarily funds its low income programs through various grants and contracts with federal, state, and local government entities.
