Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners’ (SNAP) mission is to provide access and connections to resources that create opportunities, with dignity, for people of low income. SNAP provides services in financial stability, homelessness, and community action. SNAP Homeless has many areas in which services are offered as follows:
Homeless Childcare Program: Helps homeless families with free childcare for up to 90 days as they seek permanent housing, employment, and/or attend appointments.
Transitional Housing: Rural outreach services are available to homeless families residing in the outlying areas of Spokane County.
Spokane County Homeless Prevention (HPRP): Offers short-term rent to currently-housed people who are about to be evicted.
Spokane County Re-Entry Initiative: Assists persons exiting correctional and qualified mental health institutions, as well as other specified programs within Spokane County.
Spokane Community Voicemail: Provides a free, 24-hour voicemail number that connects people in crisis or transition to jobs, housing and other vital resources. This position will focus on this area.
This is an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) position. AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities. The InfoLink VISTA will help leverage human, financial, and material resources to develop self-sustaining solutions to the issue of the digital divide via the InfoLink Program. The InfoLink Program utilizes the existing framework and service of the Community Voicemail (a free message phone number for people in poverty) and Resource Wire, and expands the reach of the program by implementing new programs, which assist the homeless and low income populations to connect to information via technology. The VISTA will maintain & grow relationships with community partners, grow & develop volunteer engagement, & research potential funders to attain sustainability while expanding awareness of the services offered & utilized.
Because AmeriCorps VISTA is aimed at fighting poverty with passion, the VISTA selected for this position will receive a living stipend of $11,676 for the year of service, option of an education award of $5730 or cash amount of $1500 upon successful completion of your year of service. Additional benefits include relocation, potential student loan forbearance, student loan interest forgiveness during service, childcare assistance, government Non Competitive Employment, assistance with finding affordable housing and of course the joy and fulfillment of serving others!
