CASA Information Session

ORGANIZATION: Voices for Children

Attending a Volunteer Information Session is the first step to becoming a CASA volunteer.

These volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) visit with their case children at least once a month, which provides the children with stability and consistency and allows the CASAs to better understand the needs of the children, as well as the children themselves. CASAs gather information from Court documents, social workers' files, and educational, medical and therapy records. They also communicate with social workers, family members, school officials, health care providers, and other professionals involved in the child's life. CASAs use this information, as well as firsthand observations, to advocate for the child in Court, school, and in other aspects of their lives to make sure that each child’s individual needs are met.

CASAs can change the trajectory of a foster child’s life. They are able to focus one-on-one on their case child or children, and are a source of caring attention, consistency, and stability.

Must be 21+ to volunteer and commit to a minimum 18 months of CASA service. Average service is 10-15 hours per month.

No prior experience is necessary. We provide all the training you will need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case.

To reserve a space for one of these sessions, please call (858) 598-2230 or complete our Information Session RSVP Form: http://www.speakupnow.org/information-sessions/.

Note: Volunteer Information Sessions are not held at our Meadow Lark office. We will email you the location and address after you have registered.

About Voices for Children

Location:

2851 Meadow Lark Drive, San Diego, CA 92123, US

Mission Statement

Voices for Children transforms the lives of abused children in San Diego County by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). We believe that every child deserves a safe and permanent home, and to that end, will review and monitor every court file in the system, provide a CASA to every child in the foster care system who needs one, and advocate to improve the lives of San Diego County’s foster children.

Description

CASAs can change the trajectory of a foster child’s life. They focus on an individual child’s needs, working one-on-one with a child or set of siblings. They provide a source of consistency and stability, visiting with their case children at least once a month. CASAs gather information from files and reports and communicate with social workers, family members, school officials, and other professionals in the children’s lives. They use this information and firsthand observations to advocate for the children’s best interests in Court, as well as in other aspects of their lives, such as education, health, and living arrangements. No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you’ll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can make a difference in the life of a foster child!
