Visiting with an elder

Imagine hearing about WWII from a veteran, or listening to a woman who lived through the Depression talk about her experiences. Maybe you can share your love of gardening or cooking with an elder who can no longer do those things while helping the family caregiver get a much needed break.

10,000 people a day are turning 65 in the U.S. 80% of elders who need assistance live at home with a spouse or adult child. Family caregivers often need a break to run errands, spend time with their children, have a "date night" with a spouse, or just take time to relax. Can you give the gift of time to elders and their families? Volunteers are friendly visitors, no medical or personal care is required. Most volunteers spend three hours a week providing respite for a family.

All volunteer opportunities are meaningful; but being an In-Home Senior Respite Volunteer means developing a deep, lasting bond with an elder and the family that loves them. It is the kind of volunteering that will change your life forever.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, attend an in-person interview, one day of training and pass a criminal background check. volunteers are needed all over DuPage County for all days and times.
