Artichoke Thistle Removal at Motorcycle County Park

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

One of our Natural Resources Technician is looking for a group of 5-15 volunteers to help with an artichoke thistle removal project.

Project details:
Volunteers will pull artichoke thistle and bag all weeded material. Artichoke thistle aggressively competes with our native plants for resources and spreads rapidly once established. Therefore, removal of artichoke thistle helps control new invasions and creates opportunities for native species to thrive. Past efforts to remove artichoke thistle have made a difference but eradication can only happen with further support.

Where:
This project will take place at Motorcycle Park, located at 300 Metcalf Road in San Jose.

When:
This event can take place as soon as possible on any upcoming Tuesday or Wednesday that volunteers are available. The date is flexible, but the sooner the better to prevent the thistle from seeding and spreading. Timing is flexing and would likely be anytime from 7 AM to 2 PM.

Other information:
Volunteers should be capable of hiking down to infested area. Volunteers should also bring their own lunch/ snack, water bottles, closed-toe shoes, and heavy-duty leather gloves. Leather gloves will be provided if you do not have any.

If you are interested in volunteering for this project, please contact Franchesca Perez, by phone 408-642-0559 or email frachesca.perez@prk.sccgov.org, with a few possible dates and any questions you may have.
